Strangely enough
“Strangely enough, this is the past that somebody in the future is longing to go back to.” — Ashleigh Brilliant
The older I get, the easier it is to romanticize the past. Of course, some memories are rightly cherished, and today we have difficulties (many of which are technology-related) that past generations did not have to worry about. But honestly taking everything into consideration, I have to admit that for every negative development I can identify about the world today, there are at least two or three advances I appreciate that were not available even thirty or forty years ago. No matter how fondly I may indulge in nostalgia, I would not want to go back to the past. These really are the good old days, at least for some of us.

Agree wholeheartedly!!! I try to cherish the past and embrace the present. I’m certainly not always successful at that, but I try! You know I love Ashleigh!
Thank you
Carla, I’m so happy you can read Ashleigh’s words and know what a totally cool person wrote them. This is one of his quotes that has always reminded me to be thankful for TODAY with all of its blessings AND burdens. Thanks for being here with us!
Your writing always makes me think….thanks for your sensible, sensitive and always enlighting words Julia
Thanks so much, your kind words brighten my day considerably. I’m so happy we found each other’s blogs!
Me too!
Julia, I hope this has been a better day …..one of hope and faith to see you through until tomorrow! Thinking of you this evening!
Sheila
Thanks so much, Sheila. Tuesday was a chemo treatment day, so it was tiring as always, but we are encouraged by the many people who are thinking of us and praying for us. We appreciate your good wishes!
My gosh, I forgot to say one year ago that this house is so gorgeous. You’d have to be super well off to afford anything like that today and even so, the trades wouldn’t know where to start. Homes today can be so bland.
There were so many beautiful homes on Martha’s Vineyard, particularly in the Oak Bluffs area. Most of them were considerably more modest than this one, although even a shack there would have been out of my price range. I would love to have a big Victorian-style house but I think Jeff prefers something more traditional (and affordable) – all that gingerbread need painting pretty often, I would guess.
