Life, waiting

A new day, like a new year, brings fresh possibilities.
This is sunrise as seen from my bathroom window a few days ago. It has not been digitally altered in any way; it really is this beautiful. January, 2025.
“And what does January hold? Clean account books. Bare diaries. Three hundred and sixty-five new days, neatly parceled into weeks, months, seasons. A chunk of time, of life, waiting to be filled…those first notes like an orchestra tuning up before the play begins!” — Phyllis Nicholson
At my age, holidays come and go with little fanfare. New Year’s Day is no different. Aside from a few tax-related deadlines, I don’t do anything special to mark the beginning of another year. But is is refreshing to contemplate what the coming months might hold, however much I have to fight the understandable tendency to feel a bit of dread about what may lie in store.
It’s reassuring to remind myself that, by the time January rolls around, the days are growing just a bit longer each day. And the bare trees allow for stunning views of spectacular sunrises that will be partially obscured by the foliage that will soon appear.
Whether your personal orchestra is tuning up for a full scale symphony this year, or just a delightful waltz or an invigorating etude, I wish you moments of sweet anticipation as we dream of brighter days ahead.

Julia,
I like your sunrise, and the thought. Yes, each new day brings new possibilities. It’s a chance to make someone smile today!
Wishing you and Matt a wonderful day!
Thank you Chris! I’m late getting to these comments, but today is another day with new possibilities! I wish you and Jeanne some comfy blessings and delightful surprises today!
Thank you, Julia.
You’re welcome, Janet. It’s so nice to know you’re here with us! I didn’t get my Christmas cards finished this year, but I’ll try to send you a letter (or at least a note or postcard) soon. I enjoyed your card.
Thank you for “Life, waiting.” Appreciate you and your emails!Conrad & ShannonSent from my iPhone
Thank you, Conrad and Shannon! I am so happy you are still with us here, after all these years! Thanks for dropping by to say hello. I hope your new year is going well.
Good morning, Julia!
Wow, what a sunrise!
i had not thought of the new year as clean and neatly parceled bits of time, I like that! I do have plenty on my calendar and to-do lists already. But none of it has happened yet. I can re-plan any of it (except the taxes)! That is a refreshing thought.
Hi Susan, I’m already feeling as if I have misplaced (or squandered) the first of those parcels. WOW, where did January go??
WOW! What a glorious blessing! It is so precious when we actually SEE God’s love for us! I recently read about how much He cares for us by the things He added.
“Did He have to make flowers smell good?
Did He have to put marvelous colors in sunrises?” Etc.
Thank you for this inspiring moment!
Sending love to you & Matthew.
Mary Ann, you are SO RIGHT! Have you read the comment by Sherlock Holmes on this topic? I wrote a blog post about it here: https://defeatdespair.com/2014/06/26/an-extra/
Thanks for being with us!
