Practicality with pleasure

A Piazza Navona café, Rome 2008

“He has gained every point who has mixed practicality with pleasure…” Horace

Treat yourself today to some wholesome indulgence.  Whether it’s a cup of tea, a piece of fruit or an afternoon nap, savor the enjoyment of things that are delightful as well as beneficial.  If the weather is gloomy, browse in a bookstore or library; if it’s sunny, take an afternoon walk.  A small break in the normal routine can brighten up a winter’s day.  What are some of your favorite practical pleasures?

Good morning, Julia.☕️ Seven years ago was our first exchange in what we consider a unique and very special friendship. “You’re smart and I’m understanding” and then Pasha and Salty exchanges, and of course Eric and Mr. Carlyle most everyday were a few highlights for me. Juia was created by Walter, can’t forget that. 🐥 Most of all, your photos and words were priceless to me and I hope the heartache that you presented in a most beautiful way was somewhat eased! 💙 The road to a friends Verandah is never long! I love you and Matt, dearly🙏🏻♥️

    • Thank you Sheila. I don’t think I could have kept this blog going as long as I did without your steadfast presence and support. That virtual Verandah was the source of much joy and a lively cast of animal characters whose spirit of joy lives on. I’ve got a busy day today so it’s coffee on the Verandah this morning…I’m having Vanilla but I have the Trader Joe’s all-natural flavored sampler so you also can choose from Caramel, Gingerbread, Chocolate Mint or Wintery Blend! Sending many cyber hugs your way.
