At the beginning of February, it’s good to look forward to the coming of spring.  It has been awhile since I’ve seen this many flowers at one time, but thoughts of them linger and build anticipation that will have me out gardening in a few weeks.  Whether you are lucky enough to have flowers blooming at this time of year, or can only see them in photographs or memory for now, I hope your day is filled with the wonderful music of flowers!

  1. Sheila

Julia, may this day and month be as beautiful as this photograph and as many special moments as there are blooms. Early thoughts of you today….. Sheila

    • Thanks, Sheila! I hope you too have a beautiful month. Springtime is just around the corner!

  2. The beautiful blessings that each season brings are always anticipated! You have made me want to get out and prepare my yard for the coming Spring!!

    • Carla, I am so eager to get out and plant some things for spring. Glad you are getting into the springtime mood – it’s a great way to banish the gloom.

  3. Thank you Julia, it’d be great to have these bloom all year round but then it wouldn’t be as special when the time comes to enjoy them again.

    • That’s true. When we were in Maine in September, I was chatting with a local woman and telling her I’d never seen so many beautiful flowers everywhere. I asked her whether Maine just had unusually favorable conditions for gardening, and she said not particularly; she just thought that everyone was so glad to see the pretty weather arrive, and they had it for such a short time, that they take full advantage of it. Must be the same in Canada, where there are so many fabulous gardens.

      • Oh how interesting, I always thought Maine had nice coastal weather…it did when Jessica Fletcher was scooting around on her little bike with a basket full of flowers….I just loved here 😀

        • Believe it or not, I had to Google “Jessica Fletcher” to find out who that is! I don’t watch TV but maybe I should get a DVD of that show – I’ve heard so many good things about it. Had no idea it was set in Maine. No wonder it was so popular.

  4. Beautiful post! I’m one of the lucky ones who lives in the tropics, so I have easy access to flowers year round!

    • You are lucky indeed to have flowers year round. It’s one of the things I miss about California. Literally “Roses in December” as well as our neighbor’s fruit trees which we ate from almost year round. I also loved not having to bring my begonias, gardenias etc. inside each year. I’ll think of your tropical weather if I get cold on my walk today!

      • this reminds me of the quote, ‘God gave us memories so that we can have roses in December.” James Barrie

        • Yes, it’s a beautiful thought that grows more meaningful as I age. It’s good to see that people are using blogs, scrapbooks, photos etc. to preserve memories. When I look back at my photos and writing from years past, there are so many things I would have forgotten had I not captured them in words or pictures.
