Like the sun in the coldest winter, Dr. King’s dream shines on.

“Let us not wallow in the valley of despair.  I say to you today, my friends, even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream.”
Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. King’s words continue to inspire us because his message was timeless.  In the face of centuries of oppression and injustice, he urged his listeners toward the higher ground of perseverance, nonviolence, determination, faith and hope.

Though his speech will forever be linked to that August day in 1963, the principles he describes transcend the immediate context to resonate today in countless ways.  May his resolve bring you renewed belief in your own ability to defeat despair.

  1. Good morning, Julia!
What a beautiful, but chilling, vista!
Yes, we have to believe in that hope that shines for us. It’s imperative to our survival.
Otherwise, we never get out of bed in the morning, not to mention in cold mornings!
This morning is another moonset sunrise, but at only 1 degree Fahrenheit and a brisk wind, it will be safer to skip it this time, knowing that there will be others.
I wish you a beautiful, hopeful day!

    • Susan, I have been feeling frozen with our 18-degree low temperatures this week– but you have just given me some perspective on that! 😀 You are welcome to head south, my friend, and enjoy our balmy 30-degree days, hee-hee.

      • Thank you, Julia, I hope I can take a rain- check on that! I took a much more extreme journey to visit my daughter, Jill. Her husband, Sylvain, is a musician at the World Expo in Dubai. Temperatures here have been 60s at night and 70s during the day. I think I understand why people like to come here, not to mention the great food opportunities!

        • Wow, that sounds like ideal winter weather to me. I’m wondering how Covid affected your travel, if at all? I hope that mask mandates are lifted for flights before my next long-distance trek.

  2. Putting aside all outward appearances we are all the same and therefore equally equal as God intended. He leaves it up to our gift of free will to see that, as MLK did, and then do the right thing.

    • Yes, Alan. As someone has said, doing the right thing is often simple, but not easy. Hope you are staying warm! Thanks for being here.

      • My pleasure Julia. Snow on the way up here. Hope we’re on the low side.

        • Yes, I just heard there was a big storm on the way to many states. So far we are not predicted to get any of it. Keep that kettle on and a good book or TV show on standby!
